Frequently Asked Questions

How long do robotic marks last?2026-09-17T18:51:15+00:00
RoboMarks are hand-assembled in Switzerland using high-grade marine materials for years of continuous service. Our earliest commercial fleets are still fully operational after more than 5 years of weekly race management.
How do robotic marks display event sponsors?2026-09-17T18:51:55+00:00
RoboMark features flat banner panels. The skid-steering motor setup keeps the mark aligned head-to-wind. This holds sponsor logos perfectly oriented toward cameras, spectators, and fleet action shots at all times—turning every mark into a high-visibility floating billboard.
Are there subscriptions or hidden costs for robotic marks?2026-09-17T18:52:28+00:00
We keep our pricing completely transparent. RoboMark’s core software and Closed Wi-Fi network are 100% subscription-free. If you choose our Cellular Web App, your system includes 2 full years of pre-activated SIM data upfront. Zero hidden software traps or unexpected monthly bills.
Does the robotic mark need external gear to measure wind?2026-09-17T18:52:52+00:00
No. RoboMark automatically faces head-to-wind using its skid-steering motor setup, transmitting live heading data directly to the app without any external sensors.
Coming soon: Integrated sensors to measure live wind speed and direction even when in current.
How are the robotic marks stored, packed, and transported off-season?2026-09-17T18:53:47+00:00
The RoboMark build features a modular design that makes it easy to store in multiple configurations.
What happens to the robotic mark if connection is lost?2026-09-17T18:54:03+00:00
RoboMark will hold its position. Losing connection to the tablet or phone will not cause the mark to drift or shut down—it continues in anchor mode reliably until it receives a new command.
How easy is it to maneuver the robotic mark around crowded docks or narrow channels?2026-09-17T18:54:29+00:00
The RoboMark software includes a manual mode. Operators can manually drive the RoboMark, making dock departures and tight harbor maneuvers simple.
Is special software or an app store download required to operate the robotic mark?2026-09-17T18:54:46+00:00
No. If using RoboMark’s cellular mobile system, the web application runs directly in any standard internet browser on iOS or Android. If using the closed RF network, the app comes pre-loaded on a dedicated Android tablet.
Can the battery be swapped on the robotic mark water if needed?2026-09-17T18:55:08+00:00
Yes. The quick-release battery connector and easy-access hatch make swapping batteries fast, safe, and volunteer-friendly.
Can competitors, coaches, and spectators track the course layout in real time?2026-09-14T14:45:58+00:00

Yes. The mobile Web-App includes a free public viewer link and real-time mark positioning.

Can robotic marks be positioned without using the app?2026-09-17T18:56:32+00:00
RoboMark is engineered for ultimate operational simplicity, featuring a waterproof master power switch and two dedicated physical hardware controls directly on the unit:
  • Position Hold (Anchor Button): A 3 sec. press engages station. No app, tablet, or active network connection required.
  • Motor Disengage (Stop Button): A 3 sec. press stops propeller rotation for safe handling, launching, or retrieval.

What safety features does the robotic mark have?2026-09-17T18:57:27+00:00
RoboMark has an automatic motor shutdown that instantly cuts power to the propellers if the mark is pulled on its side or capsized. Additionally, a large, prominent waterproof cut-off switch on the deck allows instant manual shutoff.
What happens if a competitor gets hooked on or drags a robotic mark?2026-09-17T18:57:44+00:00
Once the RoboMark is set free, it will proceed back to its last commanded position; a detail well worth mentioning in your competitors’ briefing.
To keep surrounding boats safe, a RoboMark will reposition without overshooting its target, under normal conditions. Competitors sailing the proper course are far less likely to be affected, and the Race Committee can always stop or re-anchor the mark directly within the app at any time.
Do robotic marks rotate or spin uncontrolled while holding position?2026-09-17T18:58:01+00:00
Not RoboMark. Thanks to RoboMark’s dual-motor skid steering, the mark naturally holds head-to-wind (or wind and current). Keeping the bow facing into the wind provides a consistent, predictable profile for sailors rounding the mark.
How stable is the robotic mark in heavy waves, ocean swells, and high winds?2026-09-17T18:58:40+00:00
By placing RoboMark’s electric motors at the maximum outer width of the hull, they deliver maximum leverage and station-keeping torque. In our experience, when conditions are raceable, the marks will hold.
How quickly can a course be adjusted during a sudden wind shift?2026-09-17T18:59:07+00:00
RoboMark moves semi-autonomously at up to 3 knots for fast repositioning. For larger relocations across the race area, marks can be towed behind a powerboat at planning speed.
Race committees can also make adjustments on the fly: simply send the mark toward its new position and re-anchor it as the lead boat rounds the previous mark. Even if the mark hasn’t reached its final coordinate, the leg geometry is instantly improved for quality racing.
How fast can the robotic mark be towed?2026-09-17T18:59:26+00:00
RoboMark features tilting motors and a self-storing towing bridle, allowing multiple marks to plane effortlessly behind a RIB, ultimate speed depends mainly on sea state.
How heavy is the robotic mark, and can one volunteer handle it alone?2026-09-17T18:59:49+00:00
Yes, RoboMark weighs just 38 kg (including the 50 Ah 25.6 V battery). Thanks to built-in integrated wheels, a single volunteer can roll, maneuver, and launch the mark from a dock, beach, or boat ramp without requiring extra dollies or heavy lifting.
What happens if cellular coverage for the robotic mark is weak or completely unavailable?2026-09-17T19:00:18+00:00
RoboMark provides communication options:
  • Closed RF Network: Uses a secure, long-range RF telemetry link paired with an included, pre-configured Android tablet for 100% offline control in areas with weak cellular coverage.
  • Mobile Web-App System: Connects over cellular networks via any browser-enabled smartphone or tablet for flexibility.
What regulations apply to robotic marks?2026-09-17T19:04:02+00:00
Regulations for remote-controlled vessels vary by location, so we recommend consulting your local maritime authorities.
In Switzerland, RoboMarks are classified as simple remote-controlled vessels, meaning the operator must maintain direct visual contact with the mark while it is under power. Because the hull length is under 2.5 meters, cantonal vessel registration is not required. Please check directly with your regional navigation office for your specific regulations.

What purchasing options exist for robotic marks?2026-09-17T19:02:12+00:00
RoboMark offers four structured investment pathways to match any budget:
  • Direct Purchase: Fixed price per unit (CHF 8,950 EXW) for long-term fleet ownership.
  • Lease + (Rent-to-Own): Fixed annual lease (CHF 3,500 EXW/year) where 50% of your rental payment can be applied directly toward a new order.
  • Seasonal Lease: Custom-priced leases tailored precisely to your active sailing calendar (longer than a weekend, shorter than a full year).
  • Event Rental: Turnkey rentals for single weekend regattas or championship events with optional on-site technical support
How are the robotic mark spare parts and repairs handled?2026-09-17T19:02:44+00:00
RoboMark features a fully modular design with easily swappable motors, inflatables, and hardware. Basic functional and cosmetic spares are included directly in your fleet package. To ensure zero downtime on the water, major operational spares—such as extra motors and replacement inflatables—ship with your order at no upfront charge and are billed only if and when they are used.
How long will the robotic mark battery last?2026-09-17T19:03:09+00:00
The RoboMark has a high-efficiency motor placement paired with an upgraded 50 Ah 25.6 V battery that delivers continuous, all-day station-keeping runtime, even in heavy wind and current.
